Canberra Computer Recycling Event

Dumping computers willy-nilly without any thought on the impact on the environment is one issue that has been bothering me for a few years. So I was really excited when I discovered that DELL Computers and ANUgreen are running a computer recycling event on Saturday 26th May 2007.
Details are:

The ACT community is being invited to drop off their old computers for recycling at a carpark on the ANU – FREE of CHARGE!

What: DELL Recycling event
When: Saturday May 26th 2007, 9.00am until 3.00pm
Where: Lennox Crossing, carpark opposite University House

They are also looking for volunteers. If you want to help out, or just want further information, contact Millie Rooney (millie.rooney@anu.edu.au) or John Sullivan (john.sullivan@anu.edu.au). I suggest getting in contact with them to confirm the details of the event.

Edit: post updated with corrected times.

A community announcement: Free Comic Book Day

Darth Vader Balloon

This Darth Vader Balloon may be geeky but it’s cool!

Weird Al Yankovic

Weird Al Yankovic

Tonight, hubby and I watched the hilarious Weird Al Yankovic performance at the Canberra Theatre. Weird Al is a very talented American musician/satirist/parodist who is best known for his parodies of some of the biggest names in the music business – Michael Jackson, Eminem, Nirvana, Madonna, James Blunt, etc.

Some of the songs performed tonight to a very enthusiastic audience included White and Nerdy, I’ll Sue You, You’re Pitiful, Canadian Idiot, Amish Paradise, Pretty Fly For A Rabbi, Fat, and my two absolute favourites, Yoda and The Saga Begins. I also loved the Weird Al TV interviews that played through out the night, inbetween songs.

Despite a slight technical hitch towards the end of the show (involving some device freezing and the projector stopping at a particular frame), the entire show was really fun, really funny and worth the money.

Wii for the geriatric

I was reading this article about how the Wii has taken off with the retiree generation (thanks Kaja for the link!). It’s interesting to see how Nintendo has challenged the presumptions about the target user groups and looked at a very non traditional segment of the market.

I love the article for two reasons:

  1. For showing that you can successfully challenge ‘traditional’ ways of doing something.
  2. For bringing a smile to my face.

Microsoft and Google flyover on Australia Day

For those in the Brisbane and Sydney regions, Google and Microsoft will be doing a flyover over parts of Sydney and Brisbane. Check out the cool Google plane!

Hold your wee for a Wii

As much as I like our new Wii (Alastair’s Christmas present to himself), I don’t think I can ever go to the extreme that this person did, in an attempt to win a Wii.

Happy new year!

Wishing all of you a very happy, prosperous, fun and safe 2007!
